Co-Ops/ Groups
This is a list of Co-Ops, educational groups and social groups that get together statewide.
'Tween HomeSchool Meetups, Co-Op, Extracurricular Events
Low Country
'Tweens (age 9 to 14) are in a unique age group and we saw a need for meetups specifically for them! They still want to play, explore and have fun... but yet want to flex their independence a bit with their peers. The goal of this group is to connect home school 'tweens, fostering space for relationships to grow and to support friendships that are built with time.
We will plan to have regularly scheduled "meetups" of popular activities at the same locations so kids can feel comfortable to explore the area and build familiarity with each other.
If you are the organizer of the activity, try to have something red to notify people where to meet.... red shirts, red balloons, red construction paper....
Original members of this group are located on James Island, but friends from all over town are welcome to attend meetups.

Quotes about unschooling:
"There is no difference between living and learning... it is impossible and misleading and harmful to think of them as being separate.” ~ John Holt
“When you teach a child something you take away forever his chance of discovering it for himself.” ~ Jean Piaget
"Self-education is the only possible education; the rest is mere veneer laid on the surface of a child's nature." ~ Charlotte Mason
“Children do not need to be made to learn about the world, or shown how. They want to, and they know how.” ~ John Holt
“Just as eating against one’s will is injurious to health, so studying without a liking for it spoils the memory, and it retains nothing it takes in.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” ~ Pablo Picasso
“It is as true now as it was then that no matter what tests show, very little of what is taught in school is learned, very little of what is learned is remembered, and very little of what is remembered is used. The things we learn, remember, and use are the things we seek out or meet in the daily, serious, nonschool parts of our lives.” ~ John Holt
“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.” ~ Rachel Carson
"The pupil is ... 'schooled' to confuse teaching with learning, grade advancement with education, a diploma with competence, and fluency with the ability to say something new." ~ Ivan Illich
"Learning is not the product of teaching. Learning is the product of the activity of learners." ~ John Holt

This is a weekly meet up group for homeschool moms and kids to hike and explore nature in the Okatie, Beaufort, Port Royal, Ridgeland, Bluffton areas. Some days we will do “field trips” and explore beyond this radius.
This group is affiliated with Wild + Free, who's desire is to give children a quality education but also to preserve the adventure, freedom and wonder of childhood. This isn’t your typical play date group. The goal is to consistently meet up for children to foster meaningful relationships while being “wild + free” and for moms to get to know each other, build relationships and encourage one another in our homeschooling journeys. This group will be focused towards primarily school-aged children but younger siblings are welcome to come.

Midlands
Breezy Hill homeschool Cooperative (Co-op) is a ministry of Breezy Hill Baptist Church. Our co-op members may be members of other churches of like faith. As homeschool families, we enjoy community through engaging, hands-on classes and activities. Every parent involved will need to sign our Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct as well as complete a background check. A parent from each family will either teach or assist in a co-op class.
Every other Friday includes a variety of enrichment and academic classes on a rotational basis which bring book learning to life.
Elementary Classes are hands-on, group learning in a fun environment. Classes include Music, Science, Community Helpers, History/Art, SC State study, and Habitats/Ecosystems.
Our Middle school group studies History/Art, Science classes focusing on lab projects, Lego Challenge, and Introduction to Writing. Some classes may have extra work in addition to the bi-weekly classes.
High School students study Computer, Speech, Writing, Finance, SAT prep, Piano Keyboard, Spanish, Photography, and Drama with a Dinner Theater production. Students will have extra work to complete at home in order to earn Highschool Credit.
Throughout the months there are opportunities for field trips and play dates. We visit various museums, dramatic productions, farms, manufacturing facilities, restaurant/entertainment behind the scene tours, and labs.
