The Charleston Jazz Academy Homeschool Band provides an opportunity for students to explore instrumental music through playing band instruments. These include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion instruments (snare drum, mallet instrument, etc.)

There are two levels of Homeschool band. The beginner level is for students with no prior experience on a band instrument. They will be introduced to the instruments and matched with the instrument that best matches their physical and aural skills. They will then learn notation, rhythm and pitch, correct posture and horn positioning paper breathing techniques, and perform much that develops these skills. The intermediate level is for those students with some previous experience in band. In addition to continuing what they learned in beginning band, they will add to their repertoire of music to perform with their fellow students.

Who:

For students 4th-12th grade.
